Lighting Tips for Wedding Photography

Lighting Tips for Wedding Photography

Have you ever wondered how photographers manage to make couples look amazing in their wedding photos? Maybe you’re looking to re-create professional looking images but don’t know where to begin? Being a wedding photographer can be hard – often you have to work in dark settings, don’t have much time to capture a moment, and you have no choice but to adapt to any scenario. For all photography, lighting is the key to getting those amazing shots. Whether you’re looking to create moody, dark images, or for something a little more bright, follow our top 5 tips to create the perfect lighting for any wedding, courtesy of Yorkshire Wedding Photographer ILTO Photography.

Invest in some high-end equipment

Sometimes, just knowing where to start can be the main problem. No matter how prepared or talented you are, without a good quality camera, the images won’t look professional. Next, purchase some good quality flashlights – a lot of venues have very low lighting, which can make photographing difficult. A monopad will help to keep your camera steady, making it perfect for shooting the ceremony or speeches.

Additional lighting is key

Photographers can’t just rely on the lighting from their on-camera flash, the venue or even from a flashgun. Most wedding photographers will use off camera lighting to ensure their images are perfect, even in bright light or as the evening comes in.  Speedlites are key when shooting weddings. Our top tip? Mount a speedlite on a light stand for precision when shooting and use alongside another speedlite mounted to your camera. Today, most camera equipment can be controlled and triggered remotely so wedding photographers have the ultimate control over their images.

Learn how to use Diffused Light

Wedding venues, such as converted barns or churches, often have very little or low lighting. If using a flash, or speedlite, try to avoid direct flash, as the light is flat and harsh. Bouncing your light off surfaces – such as the walls or ceiling means that the light will be softer on your guests and the bride and groom. Alternatively, you might want to buy a flash diffuser to further soften the light and reduce the risk or harsh shadows.

Be wary of the venue or DJ lighting

Talk to the venue or DJ beforehand to determine which lights will be on and when throughout the day. Often, DJ’s lights are bright and overpowering, and can ruin shots. Be sure to ask about speeches, the first dance and any other important evening activity to make sure unexpected lighting doesn’t ruin any of the important pictures. Cover all eventualities so that you can focus on what you’re there for – taking beautiful, creative shots!

Best Car Racing DVD’s to Buy

Best Car Racing DVD’s to Buy

Whether you’re a car enthusiast or not, it’s hard not to appreciate action-packed car movies.

We have a lot of experience creating marketing strategies for automotive clients, and it’s safe to say we’re a team of motor heads too.

Shots of beautiful, luxurious cars and fast-paced, thrilling car chases appeal to audiences around the world, and for good reason.

Here are our favourite car movies of all time.

The Fast & Furious Series (2001 – 2015)

While we might be cheating a little by listing The Fast & Furies series of seven movies as one entry, there’s no question these films deserve a place on this list. From the first film, The Fast and the Furious, in 2001, all the way through Furious 7, in 2015, this franchise has captured the interest of car lovers and moviegoers.

All the movies are packed with story lines involving heists and street racing, and of course, beautiful cars. These films have been so successful that there’s an eighth movie, Fast & Furious 8, on the docket and there are rumours that there could be two more after that, rounding off the series with a total of 10 films.

The Great Race (1965)

This film classic, released in 1965, is a comedy set at the turn of the 20th century with its fair share of action and adventure. The main character, known as The Great Leslie, sets up a car race that will cover three continents. When his rival Professor Fate challenges him with a car he invented himself, the game is on. In this movie, you’ll follow the race while watching old-school cars and the antics of the unforgettable characters.

The Italian Job (1969)

While The Italian Job was remade in 2003, the history of this classic film begins in 1969 with its original release. Another comedy with plenty of action, this movie is all about a recently released convict’s plan to steal a shipment of gold by creating a traffic jam.

Set in beautiful Turin, Italy, this movie has a mixture of action-packed scenes, comedy, and fun cars like Mini Coopers and Jaguars to keep you watching as the story unfolds. Of course, the car chase that tears right through buildings, rivers, highways, sewers and even rooftops, is something you can’t miss.

Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)

Gone in 60 Seconds, released in 1974, is another movie that was so successful it was remade (in 2000). This move is fully action packed and has a dose of drama for good measure.

The plot is all about Maindrian Pace and his team, who are insurance investigators by day and car thieves by night. Hired to steal 48 cars, Pace is unable to grab a 1973 Ford Mustang and decides to ditch the drug lord that hired him. However, his boss has alerted the police, forcing Pace to run from the law in a chase that takes him through five cities.
